Surfing the power pop blogs (absolutepowerpop) and sites (notlame.com) I often come across a rare gem or something that I’ve missed and that’s the case with Jackdaw4. I read about their new release, “Bipolar Diversions” and thought, oh great, yet another band being compared to Jellyfish (they are never as good as Jellyfish), but was blown away by what I heard. Yes, there are some comparisons, more 10cc than Jellyfish, but their sound and songs are amazing and very quirky with hints of ELO and XTC as well. This UK band has plenty of melodies and hooks and this is the best discovery of the year for me.
